A pavilion currently being built next to DeGol Fieldhouse is expected to be completed by the end of October.
“It will be an area for groups to gather to enjoy Saint Francis games, food and yard games,” said Director of Athletics Jim Brazill. “There will be activity inside the stadium now and not just in the parking lots or other areas of campus.”
The pavilion was made possible thanks to money raised by SFU’s lacrosse and field hockey teams. All of the cost of the project is being covered by these programs’ fundraising efforts.
After all home field hockey games, parents provide food for the team, rain or shine. When the weather gets cold and wet, they would often move inside the fieldhouse, lining the hallway with tables of food.
That was not ideal for students and coaches who share the building.
“We also noticed lacrosse parents providing meals,” said Brazill. “So we had them join the fundraising initiative.”
The pavilion is not just for the use of athletes and their families. It will be available for use by the entire SFU community upon its completion.
Construction work on the pavilion is being completed by the University’s Physical Plant staff.
“We envision the pavilion being used for tailgates by different Saint Francis University organizations such as the Office of Alumni Engagement, the Student Government Association and the Stokes Club/Red Flash Futures Booster Club,” said Brazill.
