The 2025 Major League Baseball Playoffs began this week, and fans of the sport are debating who’s going to capture a World Series title this season.
Guitar Instructor Bo Moore said he always roots for the little guy.
“I am pulling for Milwaukee because I cheer for the small-market, low-payroll teams during the postseason,” Moore said.
“Although I believe the Brewers have a good shot, if I were to put money on a team, I’d choose Philadelphia. The Phillies have one great hitter after another — they have a veteran lineup that appears to be ready for a strong playoff run.”
Milwaukee ranks 23rd out of the Major League’s 30 teams, with a 2025 payroll of $115 million. The Brewers finished the regular season with an MLB-best 97 wins.
The Phillies have the fourth highest payroll in MLB ($284 million) and finished the regular-season with a 96-66 record.
“The Phillies are going to win because they have the most balanced roster, with both power hitting and reliable pitching,” said sophomore Kurt Ruggery.
Maddy Link said she’s not locked in on baseball every day, but she still picked Philly to take home the World Series trophy later this month.
“I don’t follow every game, but I’d probably pick the Phillies,” Link said. “They’ve been talked about a lot this season, and it seems like they’ve got the momentum.
“Plus Bryce Harper always seems to step up in the big games.”
Sophomore Graciela Bobadilla thinks the Los Angeles Dodger – last year’s champs – are going to repeat in 2025. The Dodgers’ payroll is the second-highest in the league at $321 million.
Jack Soyka predicted that the Phillies will win the 2025 World Series, even though he is a Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
“It would be cool to see the Dodgers win it again,” said Soyka, “but I’m thinking the Phillies got it.”
Christian Santiago is picking the New York Yankees to win it all. The Yankees’ last World Series title was in 2009.
“The Yankees are going to win because they have the best player in baseball, Aaron Judge,” predicted Santiago.
