Saint Francis will host Mentorship Week from Oct. 20-24. The week includes multiple events across campus designed to connect current students with SFU alumni.
The networking and career-development connections that have come out of Mentorship Week have led to internships and full-time job opportunities for many SFU students.
The Shields School of Business will host its eighth annual “Mentorship Day” on Friday, Oct. 24.
The success of the SSOB’s first several Mentorship Days was so successful that it led the institution to expand the event to a week-long series of networking sessions across the University’s three Schools.
“More than 60 (SSOB) alumni will come back to campus to spend time with our students, share advice, and strengthen the bond between generations of Red Flash business leaders,” said SSOB Associate Dean John Miko, who leads the effort to organize this annual event.
“The day is about connection. Alumni are eager to give back, and students will get the chance to learn directly from people who once sat in their seats.”
Saint Francis Director of Career Services Beth McGregor pointed to the successful Mentorship Weeks of the past and said that the 2025 event is coming together nicely.
“Other schools (in addition to the SSOB) sponsor events by alumni, sometimes multiple days. The Engineering Department, alongside the Computer Science Department, hosts a meet-and-greet networking event.
“It’s an evening event where alumni and employers show up for hiring and networking,” said McGregor. “Many security internships come from that event.”
Mentorship Week is always held during the week preceding SFU’s Homecoming Weekend.
“Mentorship Day continues to make a big impact,” said Miko. “We hope all students take advantage of the conversations and guidance being offered.”
