The commencement speakers for the Class of 2025 graduation ceremonies have been announced. The University’s 174th commencement exercises will be held on May 10 and 11 at the Maurice Stokes Athletics Center.
Next month’s commencement speakers will offer words of encouragement, reflection and advice to the SFU graduates who are entering the workforce or continuing their education.
The School of Health Sciences and Education’s graduate ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. Admiral Michael Milner, who served as Assistant Surgeon General for the U.S. Public Health Service, will address graduates at this event.
Milner is an alumnus of Saint Francis. This year marks the 30th anniversary of his completion of a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Science. He speech will focus on inter-professional teamwork.
The School of Health Science’s undergraduate ceremony will follow the graduate ceremony at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Dr. MaCalus V. Hogan, Chair of the UPMC Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Chief of UPMC’s Orthopedic Surgery Service Line, will deliver the address at this event.
Hogan was the keynote speaker at SFU’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Convocation in January of 2024.
Following the commencement ceremonies on Saturday, there will be a Baccalaureate Mass in the chapel at 4 p.m. Fr. Jason Wooleyhan, an Instructor of Business Analytics and Franciscan Studies, will preside over this Mass.
On Mother’s Day, May 11, commencement exercises for the School of STEAM, the Shields School of Business, the Executive Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership and Innovation, and SFU’s Division of Professional Studies will be conducted in the Stokes Center. This event begins at 9 a.m.
The commencement speaker on May 11 will be the Honorary D. Brooks Smith, a Senior Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
All three of next month’s commencement speakers will receive an honorary degree from the University.
