SFU celebrated American Education Week from Nov. 18-22.
The national event provides an opportunity for Americans to celebrate all those involved in education and to remind people of the importance and value of a quality education.
“We planned a spirit week for American Education Week,” said Cassie Grassmyer, an instructor in the Education Department and the Education Club’s faculty advisor.
Students of Saint Francis were invited to dress up in a different themed outfit each day of Education Week. Monday was Pajama Day, Tuesday was Twin Day, Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday, Thursday was Decade Day, and Friday is Flash Friday.
“American Education Week is about recognizing teachers, not only in the pre-K to 12 sectors, but also in higher education,” said Grassmyer.
There are currently more than 3 million teachers working across the country, instructing students of all ages.
“American Education Week is about celebrating educators everywhere and it doesn’t just mean teachers: it means administrators, support staff and anyone who helps foster learning,” said Grassmyer.
The Saint Francis community includes more than 120 faculty members who teach students how to become experts in a wide range of fields, from business to nursing.
“I know I’m not alone when I say that I remember the teachers who believed in me and helped me realize my potential,” said sophomore Isabella Swindell, who serves as president of the Education Club.
“Teachers are superheroes, and we should celebrate the support they provide to students and families.”
