The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Program at SFU has provided students with valuable leadership and training experiences for more than a decade. The program offers academic coursework and provides participants military experience through various exercises.
Another of the primary benefits of the program for students is the availability of scholarships that can cover both tuition and room-and-board at SFU.
First-year students can take ROTC classes and earn college credit without committing to the full program immediately.
“Students do not need to have a scholarship to join the ROTC Program,” said Art Remillard, who serves as Interim Dean of the School of STEAM and previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
“They can start by taking classes without commitment, allowing them to explore the program and see if it suits their interests and goals.”
In addition to classroom learning, students participate in physical training exercises several times each week. They also receive leadership training and gain practical experience through field exercises.
The SFU ROTC Program has been growing steadily over the years.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for students who are considering a future in the military,” said ROTC member Autumn Cuppett.
