The Dorothy Day Outreach Center is preparing for its annual Angel Tree Project.
Each year during the Christmas season, the DDC selects some of their clients who have families, and they find out what each family needs and wants, including toys for children.
Paper angels are then used to represent individual children. The angels are placed on a tree and people from both inside and outside of the University community can select an angel and buy items that the family needs or requested.
Anna Caretti serves as a volunteer at the Dorothy Day Center and oversees the project. She notifies families by sending out letters and then makes sure the DDC gets the gifts to each family.
“This year, there are probably going to be over 125 families” said Sharon Vaughn, editor of the DDC newsletter and coordinator of many of the center’s events.
“We try to bring it all together so they can have a merry Christmas” said Mary Adams, Assistant Director of the DDC.
The center also conducts a Secret Santa project where people can buy items for entire families.
