Brother Marius Strom will lead a Saint Francis group on a mission trip to Washington, D.C., Dec. 8-14.
The team will be staying and working with members of a missionary group called “A Simple House.” This organization has been serving in the Washington, D.C., area since 2003.
Brother Marius said one of the goals of the trip is to find Jesus in the faces and stories of the city’s marginalized.
“This trip is not about service, even though we are serving,” said the Engineering instructor. “It is about finding Jesus in the midst of the work we are doing, and to respond generously to Him.”
The group has various activities planned, including baking ziti and hosting a Taylor Swift-themed birthday party. Each activity is aimed at building bonds with the community.
“Everything is focused on building relationships,” said Brother Marius, noting that every person has a story that deserves to be heard and a presence that deserves to be acknowledged.
Brother Marius said a Simple House seeks to emphasize the individuality of each person and to “meet them where they are.”
“I hope that those who go on this trip will learn something about the love of God by prayer, reflection and work,” he said.
“It is a beautiful thing to see how our relationships aren’t just a flash in the pan.”
