Alumni Kylie Jackson and Rob Pasci visited campus on Oct. 26 as part of Mentorship Week activities, speaking with students about their experiences at the “Careers in Public Service” panel.
Jackson is a 2015 graduate of Saint Francis and discussed some of her experiences as the Director of Data and Innovations for the city of Sugar Land, Texas.
Jackson said she did not expect to be working in local government after graduating from SFU, but that she enjoys her current job.
SGA President Isaac Johnsen said that hearing about Jackson’s experiences gave him new insight into working in this area.
“I never thought about working in local government, but she made me think about it,” Johnsen said.
Sophomore Political Science major Parker Lutz also found the information that Jackson shared engaging.
“That isn’t a career path people (often) think of, so that was kind of interesting to explore,” said Lutz.
Pasci is a 1993 graduate of SFU and he discussed his time working for the Secret Service during the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
He also spoke about his work as a Coordinator for the Democratic National Convention and his current job as Director of International Security for the National Football League.
“Step out of your comfort zone – that’s the biggest thing I got out of it,” said Johnsen on his take-away from the session.
