Two Non-Conference Opponents Announced for Football Team’s 2021 Schedule

The football team will open its 2021 season with the first game in program history against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent when SFU visits Eastern Michigan on Friday, Sept. 3.

The following weekend, the Flash visit Delaware for a game against the Blue Hens on Saturday, Sept.11.

“Having the opportunity to play against two juggernaut programs such as Eastern Michigan and Delaware is very exciting,” said Defensive Coordinator Scott Lewis.

“As a team, we will be challenged early in the season, which will get us ready for a competitive NEC schedule.”

The players are also excited for the challenge.

“We have some tough competition coming,” said junior inside linebacker Kyle Craig. “We have been working really hard and waiting for this time to come.”

Red Flash outside linebackers coach Tom Rogish believes that all the team’s players are excited for the challenge.

“Our student-athletes come to Saint Francis to do two things – get a great education and compete at the highest level in football,” said Rogish. “Competing against FBS Eastern Michigan and a top FCS program fulfill these goals.”

Under head coach Chris Villarrial, SFU has regularly tested itself in its non-conference games.

Previous non-conference opponents over the last decade include James Madison, North Dakota State, Richmond, Towson, Albany and former FCS members Georgia Southern and Liberty.

The team is scheduled to begin spring practices this Friday, March 12.
