SGA Hosts Town Hall Event
The SGA hosted its biannual Town Hall Meeting on Nov. 17 via Zoom, fielding questions and updating students on what the organization has accomplished this semester.
A panel of University administrators was in virtual attendance at the event, and students participated during the open-mic portion of the program. Students’ questions were related to a number of different subjects, including COVID-19, HAPT housing, the One-Card System, dining services, parking and the University’s transition to Microsoft.
Administrators in attendance at the event included Father Malachi, Police Captain Eric Allen, Associate Dean of Students Lynne Banks, Torvian General Manager Reggie Esmi, DiSepio Center Registered Nurse Mandy Lasinsky, Director of Residence Life Don Miles, Collegis Chief information Officer Jason Nairn, Vice President for Academic Affairs Karan Powell and Vice President for Finance and Administration Jeff Savino.
Father Malachi opened the meeting with a prayer and discussed plans for the construction of the new Fine Arts Building.
Randee McGee, president of the Student Government Association, moderated the event and outlined the accomplishments of the SGA throughout the semester.
The administrators in attendance fielded questions from the SGA Executive Board, and students also had an opportunity to message McGee their questions, which he then addressed.
“Even though Town Hall had to be held in a virtual format this year, I feel that it was still an extremely valuable opportunity for students to get their questions answered,” said McGee.
“I thought that the administration provided some much-needed answers, while our fellow students asked difficult questions.”
This Town Hall event is usually ended with a blessing of the newly elected SGA Executive Board and ceremonial gavel, but because it was a Zoom event, this tradition was pushed to a future session.
