Student-Athletes Show Support for Each Other in SAAC Jersey Swap
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee recently sponsored a student-athlete jersey swap.
During the event, members of different athletics teams at SFU wore jerseys from other teams at the school.
“SAAC Has Your Back” was the slogan given to the initiative. The objective of the campaign was to promote diversity, equity and inclusion among the teams.
“The jersey swap is definitely a great representation of SFU Athletics,” said senior softball player Mekenzie Saban.
“We are all extremely supportive of each other, and it is a great feeling knowing that you have the support of the entire athletic department behind you,” said the infielder from Pittsburgh. “We all come from different backgrounds and different sports, yet we come together to support each other.”
Two students from each athletics team serve as representatives on SAAC for their programs.
“The jersey swap was a way for each team to show that we support one another and always have each other’s backs,” said soccer player Dakota Graham. “We all are one big team here on campus. Acknowledging and understanding diversity, equity and inclusion are part of being a family.”
A forward on the soccer team from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Graham has served on SAAC for three years and is the committee’s co-president this year.
