Field Hockey Team to Close Season, Atlantic 10 Affiliation This Weekend

The field hockey team (4-13) closes its season this weekend with home games against Lock Haven (Friday) and Saint Louis (Sunday). The LHU match begins at 3 p.m. and the game against the Billikens is a noon start.

SFU’s record is deceiving, with five of the team’s losses coming by two goals or less.

The Flash will be leaving the Atlantic 10 Conference after this weekend’s games and rejoining the Northeast Conference in 2020.

“We are looking forward to playing at home and performing well,” said head coach Maria Ceretta.

“The team has been improving: every weekend, we play better. Last weekend, even though the results were not the ones we wanted, we played very good hockey.”

The Red Flash were previously in the NEC, but left this conference in 2013 to become an affiliate member of the Atlantic 10.

“We are looking forward to changing to the NEC,” said Ceretta. “Being able to compete in the A10 was a great opportunity and we are very grateful for it.”

Lock Haven is currently in second place in the A10 with a 5-2 league mark. Saint Louis has struggled this year and brings a winless record to Loretto.

Since joining the Atlantic 10, SFU has posted an overall record of 40-49 and a conference mark of 15-22.

“Our expectations are to keep developing a good team culture, with strong values, and to keep developing each athlete,” said Ceretta.
