Although the SFU men’s volleyball team is off to a rough 1-10 start to open the 2025 season, the play of senior outside hitter Andrew Deardorff has been fantastic for the Red Flash.
Deardorff was named the Northeast Conference’s Player-of-the-Week on Feb. 18. It was the third time this season that he has claimed the league’s weekly award.
The Itasca, Illinois native currently leads SFU in points (155), kills (130), total attacks (317) and service aces (17).
“Andrew is a natural leader,” said sophomore middle blocker Brayden Gall. “He possesses a special talent on the volleyball court.
“We know that we can trust him to perform at the highest level.”
Deardorff recorded 20 kills, two aces and two blocks in SFU’s home-opener against Penn State on Feb. 14. He posted a .378 hitting percentage in his team’s 3-0 loss to the Nittany Lions last week.
“Dorff is a lead-by-example guy,” said longtime SFU head coach Mike Rumbaugh. “He does not ask anyone to do what he has not already done.
“He sees the potential we have, and he is pushing others to raise their level.”
Gall said the best one-word description of Deardorff is “passionate.”
The outside hitter currently ranks third in the NEC in kills-per-set (3.42).
“Dorff is a competitor, whether it’s competing to get the best grades, win on the court, or just be the best person in the room,” said Rumbaugh.
Deardorff and his teammates return to action when they host Dominican at the Stokes Center on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
