SFU’s Greek community welcomed 22 new members during its “Bid Day” celebration on Sept. 26. Bid Day marks the start of the new member education process.
Each semester, Greek members gather in JFK Auditorium to celebrate the new members formally accepting their invitations to join a sorority or fraternity.
“Bid Day is all about unity,” said SFU Greek Life Coordinator Meghan DeFrancesco. “It’s not about competition – it’s a celebration of our community’s growth.”
While this year’s Greek class is smaller than in recent semesters, DeFrancesco said that the smaller size will helped strengthen the bonds within the community.
Coby Romanchock, the New Member Educator for Alpha Phi Delta, said Bid Day sets a tone for the weeks ahead.
“The energy from Bid Day helps new members start with excitement rather than fear.”
Romanchock said his goal is to ensure that new members feel comfortable and supported throughout their journey.
DeFrancesco agreed.
“You have a whole Greek community behind you,” said DeFrancesco. “Learn from your brothers and sisters.”
