The Student Government Association Fall 2023 election recently wrapped up and junior Paige Debias won the race for SGA president.
She succeeds Isaac Johnsen, who has served in this role for the last two years.
Vice President Alice Hoover was re-elected to this position in the online student voting conducted earlier this month.
“I am excited to start working with students and faculty,” said Debias.
Debias has been involved in SGA since her first semester at Saint Francis in the fall of 2021. She served as Senator for the School of STEAM during her freshman year before becoming the Chief Senator of Dining as a sophomore.
“Both positions have prepared me for my new position as president,” said the Windber, Pennsylvania, native. “I learned how to balance time and effectively work with others to get both small and large goals accomplished.”
Debias first discovered SGA when she attended a Town Hall meeting for CES credit during her freshman year.
“I knew immediately that every senator at the meeting was there to make the campus better. I applied the following week to fill an open School of STEAM position.”
Johnsen said he is confident that Debias will serve SGA well.
“It’s good to hand it off to the next person,” said the outgoing president. “Paige is going to do an incredible job.”
Johnsen, whose term ends this semester, said he is appreciative of all the support he has received during his time leading SGA.
“It was a good run and, the entire time, people have been super kind and super gracious. I wish the next administration the best of luck.”
Debias said she looks forward to making sure students know that they can “make a lasting change” at the University by getting involved in areas that matter to them.
She also encourages students to share suggestions with her.
“Shoot me an email, text or come see me. I would love to discuss any ideas or concerns about absolutely anything on campus,” said Debias.
“I prioritize being available – even if it’s just to talk or grab a coffee!”
