The men’s soccer team posted its third victory in a row on Oct. 23 in a 1-0 win at LIU, moving the squad into second place in the Northeast Conference with two home games to go in the regular season.

The Red Flash have now scored four goals in their last three games. With the win, SFU improved to 3-2-1 in the NEC and 6-5-2 overall.

Quinn O’Hearn – who made his fifth career start against LIU – scored the only goal of the match and his first with the Red Flash.

“I am proud of the guys,” said O’Hearn, a sophomore Cyber Security major. “We were following the game plan and worked hard to find a way to win.”

The team is enjoying its success, but also knows that the opportunity for more is within its reach.

“The job is not done,” said junior defender Torren Aikens who delivered the game-winning assist on O’Hearn’s goal.

“I am nothing but proud for the boys who dug in deep tonight,” said senior captain Sean Smolyn. “The main objective is to take one game at a time going into the final stretch of the season.”

SFU hosts Stonehill on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. for its Senior Day game and will wrap up the regular-season action on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m., hosting Howard in a non-conference match.

The NEC Tournament will begin on Nov. 6.
