Philanthropies play an enormous role with all of the Greek chapters at Saint Francis University. The sisters of Phi Delta Kappa (Kappies) have been working throughout the months of December and January to raise money for their philanthropy, The Make a Wish Foundation.

On Saturday, December 7th the Kappies held their annual “Kappathon” Fundraiser in JFK from 8pm -1 am. The sorority partnered with The Student Activities Organization to hold the event.  The night began with a Deal or No Deal game in the JFK Auditorium for an admission of $1.

Beth Maggio, one of the sisters, played host during the event, and other Kappies served as the suitcase holders. Chosen students played the game to earn cash prizes. After the event, the sisters held a dance in the JFK lounge that lasted until 1 am.

To further their philanthropic endeavors, the Kappies have been selling Stars for one dollar at basketball games to raise money for the foundation. They are also currently selling t-shirts that read “Keep Calm and Make a Wish” that are on sale for $10. Anyone wishing to buy a shirt can do so by contacting any Kappie sister or their advisor, Maria Pellegrino.

Kara Gronborg, another sister, commented that Kappathon was well attended and the audience seemed to be having a good time. She also explained how the event gave the sisters something to work on together which meant a lot to them.  The sisters consider their hard work worth it because they are able to contribute to making a child’s wish come true.

“The Make a Wish Foundation is such a good cause that truly touches children’s hearts,” said Gronborg. “Phi Delta Kappa is very proud to be able to work towards helping to make sure that Make a Wish Foundation can provide as many wishes as possible each year! It is such a great opportunity to not only work side by side as sisters but also to help out a great cause.”
