March is National Law Enforcement Month and several departments and clubs are collaborating on different events and initiatives throughout the month.

On March 10, Forensic Social Workers Grace Mentzer and Leilany Tran from the Lancaster Police Department spent the day with Criminal Justice, Social Work and Psychology students and faculty, discussing the importance of law enforcement and social work collaboration.

The Sociology Club and the Psychology Club are working together to collect stuffed animals for children in the region.

Donation boxes are set up in JFK, Padua, Schwab and Stokes to collect donations.

“The stuffed animals we are collecting can be comfort bears to children that have gone through trauma, such as domestic violence situations and car accidents,” said Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Mark Buckwalter.

The last day to donate stuffed animals is March 25. The bears will be taken to local police stations and fire departments and then distributed to children from there.

At the end of the month – March 31 – members of the Criminal Justice Club will visit the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., as well as the U.S. Capitol Police Department, where several SFU alumni are employed.
