2021 Reaching-Every-Door Event a Success
The University’s annual Reaching-Every-Door Day was held on Oct. 5. The event provides an opportunity for SFU organizations and sport teams to give back to the local community.
It is a tradition for members of the SFU community to sign up to volunteer with various groups throughout the area.
“The women’s soccer team split up into two groups,” said Julianna Marshall, a sophomore goalie from North Versailles, Pennsylvania. “Half of us helped admissions move to their new office location. We carried all their furniture and supplies to the new building.
“The other half went to Ebensburg and helped clean an elderly lady’s porch. It was a very rewarding day.”
The water polo team volunteered at Vale Wood Farms. The team helped set up the Loretto dairy company’s annual pumpkin patch.
“It was a good experience to help the community,” said Taylor Simon, a freshman from San Diego, California.
The swim team volunteered at a center where retired people live.
“They needed some help with moving furniture,” said Rebecca Pendleton, a senior from Maple Glen, Pennsylvania.
“They didn’t realize that there were so many of us coming, so it didn’t take very long. We ended up helping them with their yard and gardening.
“It was really just sweet to see how happy they were to be around people again.”
