Men’s soccer midfielder Lucas Rosa was named a Third Team All-American by College Soccer News last month.

Rosa was also named the 2019 Northeast Conference Player-of-the-Year and was selected to the United Soccer Coaches’ All-Northeast Region First Team at the end of last season.

Rosa returned to the pitch for SFU last fall after missing most of the 2018 season because of a knee injury that required surgery.

“It was a great honor and it was awesome to be able to accomplish not only this award, but the other ones as well,” said Rosa.

“It makes me feel good, but I know there’s a lot more in sports than awards. They are good, but they do not define who I am as a person. If anything, it makes me even hungrier to achieve my goals.”

Senior midfielder Renan Fuentes was not surprised that his teammate earned All-American distinction.

“To be honest, this award was not a surprise to anyone because we all know that he is a different player with above-average quality,” said Fuentes.

“I went to his room and gave him a big hug. Lucas always works very hard on and off the field, especially after his ACL surgery.”
