The cheerleading team will host a “Nationals Showcase” on March 31 in DeGol Arena at 2 p.m. to give the University community a glimpse of the team’s routine, one that it will perform at the national championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, during the first week of April.

“The showcase is the only opportunity our squad gets to show our friends, family and peers our competitive team’s talent,” said cheerleader Julia Settle.

This event is the cheerleading team’s Frankie Cup event for the 2018-19 academic year.

“The team and I can’t wait to showcase our routine to all of our friends and family,” said head coach Kasey Geyer.

“We hope to wow the crowd with our new skills and get that one last boost of confidence before we embark on our travels to nationals.”

The team will compete against some of the most talented teams in the country in the All-Girl Cheer Division I classification at Daytona Beach.  SFU is a member of a field of teams that includes Sam Houston State, Towson and New Hampshire.

The stunts performed by the Red Flash cheer squad at football and basketball games show only a small amount of the hard work that has been completed by this year’s team.

The routine the team will perform at the showcase event and then at nationals runs roughly two minutes and includes tumbling and stunts.

“We have been eagerly waiting for this opportunity since last year,” said sophomore cheerleader Lauryn Zelnosky.
