Women’s soccer hosts Soccer Without Borders event

The Red Flash women’s soccer team held their annual Soccer Without Borders tournament on April 21.

The event raises money for those who can’t afford balls, equipment, etc. It welcomes children who love the game to Saint Francis and gives them a chance to develop their skills while working with Division I college players.

Hallie Rexer, a former member of the team, organized the first event at Saint Francis a few years ago after traveling with the national Soccer-Without-Borders organization to Nicaragua.

The team’s goal was to raise $300, which would produce $600 for children to purchase soccer equipment. Positive Tracks – a philanthropic organization headquartered in Hanover, New Hampshire, that raises money to empower children – agreed to match every dollar the team raised.

“I like seeing the teams come out to play and have fun because that makes for a better overall tournament,” said SFU student Alecia Rexer.
