Gubio space reopens

The Student Government Association and Residence Life held a grand re-opening ceremony for the Gubio Study Lounge in the basement of Francis Hall on March 18.

Café Gubio closed at the end of the 2016 academic year after the Adamucci Café was created as part of the Schwab Hall renovations.

The Gubio space is now designed to be a quiet area where students can complete schoolwork.

“I think if this initiative was going to come from anywhere, it is only appropriate that it comes from student government,” said Marcus Mihelcic, president of Saint Francis’ Student Government Association. “We are the body that represents student interests.”

Several other campus organizations and groups created proposals for repurposing the Gubio space in the fall of 2016.

“It is a warm, inviting place,” said SGA vice president Randall Frye.

The Gubio study space is open until 12:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and remains open until 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
