The Red Flash lacrosse team opens its season at home against Central Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at DeGol Field.

The Flash are eager for the start of the new season and are looking to build on last year’s 4-12 campaign.

Kara Concheck enters her first full season as head coach of the Red Flash.

Concheck is confident that her team has talent, both in its returning players and in its group of newcomers.

“We are returning four of our leading scorers,” said Concheck.

Senior midfielder Holly Lawrence is the team’s top returning scorer. The Maryland native ranks fifth all-time in goals at SFU with 70, with 37 of those coming last season.

Lawrence is also a captain and her teammates will look to her for guidance in 2017. “I have been emphasizing to my team that we need to always have positive energy,” said Lawrence, “and always support each other on the field.”

The other captains this season are senior midfielder Sydney Shearer, sophomore goalie Ashley Stoessel and junior attacker Sarah Mahon.

“They (captains) are well respected,” said Concheck, “and they are on board with our vision and the direction we are taking this program.”
