Robinson Fruchtl Named Saint Francis Director of Athletics

Former Red Flash women’s basketball coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl has been named the new Director of Athletics at Saint Francis.

She will begin her duties on Aug. 1.

Robinson Fruchtl replaces Bob Krimmel, who will retire this summer after guiding the athletics department for 11 years.

Robinson Fruchtl, who served as women’s basketball coach at SFU from 2007-12, started the popular theme “Become That Someone” within the department. She will become the University’s first female director of athletics.

“It really is different on the mountain, especially with athletics,” said Krimmel. “We aren’t comparable to any other D-1 schools, and depend on athletics for enrollment.

“It’s a lot to take on, but I am confident that Susan can handle the job.”

Selected the Northeast Conference’s Coach of the Year in 2011, Robinson led her teams to 74 career wins at Saint Francis. The Red Flash captured back-to-back NEC championships in 2010 and 2011.

Robinson Fruchtl has served as women’s basketball coach at Providence College for the last four seasons.

SFU Band Director Daniel Atwood said he thinks Robinson Fruchtl will be very successful in her new role.

“I remember when she was here coaching basketball, and she did a great job – very organized,” said Atwood. “I think she will do a great job and care about the smaller programs, too.”

Jim Brazill, Saint Francis’ Senior Associate Director of Athletics, said there will be an adjustment period.

“It will take time to get used to the loss of Bob Krimmel and the addition of someone new, but I have strong hope for the future,” said Brazill.
