Author Laurie Cannady read from her memoir, Crave: Sojourn of a Hungry Soul, at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art on Nov. 17.

Cannady’s memoir reflects on her childhood, one which included poverty, abuse and starvation.

“I love writing, especially memoirs,” said Cannady, who serves on the English faculty at Lock Haven University.
“Because when you write memoirs, life still goes on.”

Cannady’s book was released earlier this month. It was published by Etruscan Press.

“I think the hardships from her childhood definitely shaped who she is today,” said sophomore physical therapy major Rosemary Smith, who attended the reading.

In addition to her memoir, Cannady has published articles on poverty in the United States, domestic violence and women’s issues.
