SFU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host the sixth annual Gatorade Pong Tournament on Nov. 20 in the Auxiliary Gym of the Stokes Center. This year’s theme is “Sinking Shots and Making Miracles.”

“It is tremendous to see this event grow every year,” said associate director of athletics John Krimmel.

The event is a fundraiser for the Zack Hinish Foundation, a non-profit organization that benefits children with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. The foundation is named in honor of Zack Hinish, who struggled with neurological diseases and died at the age of 5.

Former SFU men’s volleyball player and SAAC member Eric Syty came up with the idea of a charity Gatorade Pong Tournament in the spring of 2011.

“We held the event again in the fall of 2011,” said Krimmel. “Since then, it has become a tradition.”

Last year, the tournament raised $1,405 for the Hinish Foundation. Since the inaugural event in the spring of 2011, $5,337 has been raised.

“Gatorade Pong is a really fun event, which brings the school together,” said SAAC member Hallie Rexer. “Lots of teams dress up in costumes.”
