Freshman forward Mario Mastrangelo and senior goalkeeper Andrew Garcia have been named the Northeast Conference Rookie and Player of the Week, respectfully, for their efforts in SFU’s win over George Washington and draw against Lehigh in the team’s last two games.

Mastrangelo scored the game-winner last Wednesday in SFU’s 2-0 win over the Colonials. The freshman volleyed in a pass from Pablo Medina in the eighth minute. It was the second goal of the season for Mastrangelo. On Sunday, the freshman had three shots, all on goal in the scoreless draw against the Mountain Hawks. The Venetia, Pennsylvania native had a good chance in overtime against Lehigh to give the Red Flash the win, but it was turned aside. Mastrangelo leads the Flash with five points this season.

Garcia posted a pair of shutouts in the two games, giving him four on the season. Against George Washington, the senior made a pair of difficult saves in the opening moments. His second save led to a counter-attack that resulted in Mastrangelo’s game-winner. Garcia made four saves in the victory.

On Sunday, he made seven saves in the scoreless draw versus Lehigh.  The 11 saves in his team’s last two games improves this save percentage to a conference-best .913.

Saint Francis is now 3-1-3 on the season and hosts Saint Bonaventure on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Stokes SoccerPlex.
