Update on Injured Georgetown Player
A Georgetown football player underwent emergency surgery following a serious neck injury suffered in the first quarter of Saint Francis’ season-opening game at DeGol Field, Sept. 5.
Georgetown junior linebacker Ty Williams collided with SFU senior wide receiver Will Martin, fracturing a bone in his neck. The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native was taken to UPMC Hospital in Altoona and underwent immediate surgery. Doctors believe the surgery was successful and Williams was transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Atlanta late last week.
The Washington Post reported that Williams’ cousin claimed he was able to move his legs.
Father Malachi, SFU head football coach Chris Villarrial and many other members of the University community reached out to Williams at UPMC Hospital.
“Between our coaches, administrators and student-athletes, there has been a steady stream of visitors at the hospital,” said Bob Krimmel, SFU Athletics Director.
“Our prayers go out to Ty and his family and we will continue to be there for him.”
