The football team opens its final Northeast Conference season at defending league champion Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
The game kicks off at noon and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
Last weekend, SFU (0-2) dropped a 45-6 decision at FBS-member Buffalo. It marked the first time in history that the Red Flash have played consecutive games against FBS programs.
SFU opened the 2025 season at Louisiana-Monroe, dropping a 29-0 decision to the Warhawks on Aug. 28.
Sophomore Geno Calgaro has turned in two dominating individual performances to open the season. He made a career-high 15 tackles against the Bulls last weekend. In the season-opener at Louisiana-Monroe, the inside linebacker recorded 12 stops.
Buffalo recorded 503 yards of total offense and 32 first downs last weekend. The Flash offense finished the game with 126 total yards (115 pass yards; 11 rush yards).
SFU quarterback Nick Whitfield started the game, completing 17-of-27 passes for 111 yards. Redshirt sophomore running back Jordan Theodore – who was playing in his hometown of Buffalo – scored SFU’s first points of the season on a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Theodore’s TD was set up by Craig Joyner’s first career interception. Corey Williams also picked off a pass for the Flash at Buffalo.
Freshmen wide receivers Peyton Nelson and Emmanuel Dyson each made four catches.
The game was the first between SFU and Buffalo since 1941. It was also a homecoming of sorts for Red Flash head coach Chris Villarrial, who played three seasons (2004-06) with the Buffalo Bills during his NFL career.
Central Connecticut State is 1-0. The Blue Devils opened the 2025 season last week at home, posting a 34-7 victory over American International.
The Flash dropped a 27-20 decision to CCSU in Loretto last September.
