National Video Game Day will be celebrated across the country on Sept. 12 – not that Saint Francis gamers need an excuse to break out their TVs and gaming consoles.
The holiday gives gamers and others the opportunity to reflect on the impact video games have on entertainment culture and community. And, of course, it’s an opportunity to spend some time playing your favorite game.
For sophomore Maxwell Malicki, Rocket League stands above the rest.
“I don’t play a whole lot anymore,” Malicki said, “but it is definitely the game I enjoy the most.”
Sophomore Jacob Callihan’s favorite game is a popular one among many football fans.
“Madden has always been my go-to,” Callihan said. “I like the realism and how it keeps improving every year.”
For Natalya Cann, gaming means creativity.
“Minecraft is the one that I would probably call my favorite,” Cann said. “You can build anything you want, and it’s cool to see what your friends come up with.”
Senior Nick Patterson said NBA 2K26 holds the top spot on his favorites list.
“I play it all the time on PlayStation,” Patterson said. “The graphics are so realistic – it already seems like it will be much better than last year’s version.”
Jon Zernick agrees with Patterson.
“NBA 2K26 is the best game right now,” Zernick said. “It’s competitive and it’s fun to play against my friends.”
