Construction work on the Connors Family Fine Arts Center and Resinksi Black Box Theatre is expected to be completed in early to mid-March.
Upon its completion, faculty members will move into the new facility and student activity in the building will commence shortly thereafter.
“The original idea for the building was to create a space dedicated to theatre at SFU,” said Fine Arts Adjunct Professor Bonnie Resinski.
Resinski and her late husband, Ken – who died in 2013 – taught fine arts courses and directed theatrical performances at the University since 1967. Bonnie continues to be involved with the Fine Arts Program at SFU.
Between she and Ken, the two have been actively involved in more than 250 theatrical productions at Saint Francis.
“When Ken passed away, the alumni wanted to do something for him,” said Resinski. “The effort for the building began in 2018.”
Fine Arts Assistant Professor Jess Campbell is looking forward to working with students in the new state-of-the-art facility.
“We have a lot of natural light coming into the building, which is something we have not had in a while,” said Campbell. “We also have more storage.”
The Fine Arts Department has not had a dedicated space for the program since the fall of 2022 when construction of Saint Margaret Hall began.
“We are excited – it is a brand-new space dedicated to the fine arts,” said Campbell. “Our possibilities are endless.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate all those who played a role in the building’s completion will be held on April 18.
