The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting its annual Canned and Non-Perishable Food Drive. Members of each Saint Francis athletics team are encouraged to reach out to family members and loved ones and encourage them to donate items to help the Loretto/Ebensburg community.
“It is an amazing event we put on every year,” said SAAC Graduate Assistant Sean Smolyn. “We love the participation of the teams and we are grateful everyone steps up to help.”
Each team is encouraged to get involved, but the men’s soccer and women’s swimming teams have made it a priority to go above and beyond each year during the drive.
“It has been a tradition on the men’s soccer team to try and aid the community the best they can,” said men’s soccer coach Mads Kaiser. “We have made it into a tradition in winning the canned food drive and we look forward to keeping that tradition alive.”
The event is sponsored each year by the Northeast Conference and pits member schools against one another to see who can collect the most donations. SFU has been a regular winner of this event.
“It’s nice to get some recognition from the conference, but it’s not why we do it, of course,” said Associate Athletics Director John Krimmel.
The food drive will be run until Monday, Nov. 6. Collection boxes are located in the lobbies of the DeGol Fieldhouse and the Stokes Center
