The University campus is buzzing with excitement as Homecoming Week kicks off on Monday, Oct. 23.
There will be a new addition to the festivities – a glitter duck hunt promises daily adventures, challenging students to seek out the elusive marked duck for a chance to win prizes.
Wednesday, Oct. 25, is Spirit Day, a day designated to show your Red Flash pride. Students decked out in SFU gear are encouraged to post their spirit photos on Instagram, tagging SAO for a chance to win $150. The winner will be announced at the Homecoming Dance.
The Physician Assistant Student Society will be hosting bingo in the JFK Student Center on Wednesday night. At just $1 per card, students have a shot at winning a variety of prizes.
Thursday, Oct. 26, brings the “Happy Camper Cupcakes” event to JFK, where students will be offered free cupcakes. Later, JFK Lounge will turn into a casino for the evening. Faculty and staff will act as the dealers for the games.
On Friday, Oct. 27, the festivities move outdoors. At DeGol Field, the field hockey team faces Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. The Campus Mall will transform into a music festival that afternoon.
DIY Cowboy Hats offers a chance to add a personal touch to festival attire and Beech Hollow BBQ will provide free pulled pork and hot sausage sandwiches. Flash Fest will electrify the evening with a lineup that promises something for everyone, from country to indie rock.
Saturday, Oct. 28, is the last day of Homecoming Week. The Homecoming Parade is at 11 a.m. and showcases the 2023 Homecoming Court and floats from various clubs and organizations. There is also an Alumni Tailgate on Saturday that will be hosted by Alumni Relations to help graduates reconnect and reminisce.
The football team takes on Merrimack at 1 p.m. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at the half of the game.
The Homecoming Dance at JFK caps off the Saturday festivities from 9-11 p.m. Students are welcome to dress in semi-formal attire for a night of dancing, fun and special giveaways. Students are allowed to bring a guest for the cost of $5.
“My girlfriend is driving up from West Chester so we can go to the dance together,” said sophomore Mikey Chiha. “It is going to be so much fun!”
This year’s Homecoming promises to be a spectacular event that will be remembered for years to come.
“It is my first homecoming ever. I can’t wait to see what an American homecoming is like,” said freshman Alvaro Planas, a native of Spain.
