Communication might be the buzz word of Gen Z. Not only do we communicate more often and more extensively than those older than us, but we also value the content and phrasing of what is communicated in different ways than in the past.
We are totally inundated with information. Every second, we receive snapchats, emails, texts and thousands of other forms of direct communication. It can be hard to keep track of it all!
With this in mind, the SGA wanted to find out what form of communication was most preferred by students. We collaborated with the Center for Institutional Research to conduct a survey asking this question.
Of the 216 students that responded to this survey, more than 85 percent listed email in their top three preferred methods of communication. Second was texting, followed by social media and website updates.
I was somewhat surprised by this, as many people seem to dislike and/or ignore emails. Texting ranking second also surprised me – no one wants to receive a hundred texts a day! The findings from our survey, however, suggest that students value these forms of communication.
