SFU celebrated Family Weekend on Sept. 22-24.
On Friday the activities began, starting with axe throwing, courtesy of Steel City Axe Throwing, then moved onto a Candy Bar. The JFK Student Center was decorated like a Candy Land Trail for the Candy Bar.
A highlight of Friday evening was the SEEK party organized by Campus Ministry and FOCUS. SEEK is a project led by FOCUS, a Catholic outreach organization. Its purpose is to share the hope and joy of the Gospel with the world.
Families learned about a SEEK conference, scheduled for Jan. 1-5, 2024, in St. Louis.
The evening ended with a bingo game at JFK Lounge. Bingo was hosted by the sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon. Prizes for the winners included a television.
On Saturday, the morning started out with a tour of the Schwab Gardens.
The families joined Fr. Stephen Mary Waruszewski for a guided tour of the gardens, which were established by Charles Schwab in the early 20th century and are maintained by the Franciscan Friars.
Saturday’s highlight was SFU’s football game against Sacred Heart.
On Sunday morning, the atmosphere was warm and friendly during a brunch in Torvian, where many families gathered to share a meal.
“We really enjoyed every moment of this weekend,” said Jennifer and Dennis Scanlon, the parents of Brigid Scanlon.
“Our favorite activity was the football game,” said the Scanlons. “We are big football fans.”
