The men’s soccer team (3-0-4, 1-0 NEC) ran its unbeaten streak to seven straight matches to open the 2023 season, defeating Stonehill, 1-0, on Sept. 21 in its NEC opener.
Midfielder Julian Jakopovic scored the lone goal of the match, netting the game-winner in the 78th minute. It was the sophomore from Germany’s first collegiate goal.
“Things that went well included our defensive pressure and grittiness to score,” said sophomore midfielder Mikey Chiha “Things to work on are communication everywhere on the field and more completed passes.
“Overall we did enough to get the job done, but there is a lot more to improve on.”
SFU has not allowed a goal in the last three matches.
“We defended well as a team and we created a lot of opportunities up top,” said sophomore defender Charlie Lucero. “We need to work on actually putting away those chances and capitalizing on the opportunities we do get.”
Saint Francis returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 1, hosting FDU at the Stokes Soccer Complex at 2 p.m.
