Basketball Teams to Open Season in November

The NCAA has announced that there will be a basketball season, starting on Nov. 25, after members of the NCAA Division I Council approved the start date during a meeting in mid-September.

The men’s and women’s college basketball seasons were originally scheduled to start on Nov. 10, but both were in jeopardy of even happening at all this winter due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head men’s basketball coach Rob Krimmel is excited for the upcoming season, but he also knows it will be a challenge.

“It’s good to finally have a date with some benchmarks,” said Krimmel. “It gives our guys some guidance, because at first it was all speculation and hope.”

While a start date has been determined, there are still many details to be worked out, including COVID-19 testing protocols, scheduling and whether or not fans will be permitted to attend games.

“We’re excited to be able to play this year,” said senior team captain Ramiir Dixon-Conover. “We’ve been patiently waiting to hear the status of our season.”
