Guitarist Captures SFU’s Got Talent Crown
After four consecutive Fridays of intense competition, “SFU’s Got Talent” crowned its champion Feb. 19 at JFK Auditorium.
Andrew Garcia, a rock-and-roll guitarist, wowed the audience and earned the most votes for his two performances of the night.
In his second act, Garcia brought back-up dancers onto the stage. He also had friends hand out inflatable guitars and bring audience members on stage to get the crowd involved.
“A child stole Andrew’s spotlight for a brief moment, after doing a ridiculous amount of back-handsprings in a row,” said audience member Kitana Downs.
“The spotlight, however, quickly returned to Andrew after a rocking solo,” Downs added. “He definitely deserved to win the grand prize.”
Garcia won $500 for placing first in the competition. Byron Johnson, a break-dancer and isolation specialist, captured second place, followed by Jessica Schulte, an accordionist, who placed third.
According to SAO president Kayli Gallen, approximately 225 people attended the final round of competition.
“We changed our programming a little bit so that we could get the audience to show off their talents too,” said Gallen. “This year we incorporated a lot of fun contests for Sheetz MTO cards.
“It was definitely a success.”
SAO and Red Radio sponsored an after-party with pizza, soda and raffles.
