The Red Flash field hockey team joined the Atlantic Ten Conference last season, leaving the Northeast Conference and stepping up in terms of level of competition.

After posting an 8-8 overall record in 2013, including a 3-4 mark in Atlantic Ten action, what the team has achieved thus far in 2014 is nothing short of spectacular.  Seventh-year head coach Stacey Bean’s team is currently 8-0 and ranked 33rd in the nation at the midway point of the season.

The team has not allowed more than two goals in a match yet this fall and has outscored its opponents, 41-7, through eight games.

“It shows how much hard work pays off,” said senior forward Autumn Pellman.  “You can build together as a team and it shows your strengths.”

Pellman has earned Atlantic 10 Conference Player-of-the-Week honors twice already this season and has scored a team-high 15 goals through eight games.

“There is a huge improvement on where we’ve come from,” said senior caption Carissa Makea, who is second on the team in scoring with eight goals.  “In order to win the A-10 it’s going to take a collective effort and dedication to power through.”

The Red Flash will be home for four of its final eight regular-season games.
