Reaching Every Door’s (RED) annual day of service is scheduled for Oct. 1. Students of all years and majors can register online at Orgsync.com.

RED is now led by the Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority.

“The purpose of RED is so that students here at Saint Francis can go out and make an impact in the local community,” said Gamma Sigma Sigma President Cassidy Merrifield.

RED was started by two Student Government Association students in 2009. Their hope was to help the community surrounding Saint Francis. Participants provide service to Loretto, Cresson, Ebensburg, Portage, Lilly and Gallitzin.

“It is a great experience,” said RED Committee Chair Kierstyn Reddecliff, “for service outside of the school and outside of the sorority.”

Merrifield hopes that RED will expand by becoming more involved with the University’s academic schools, as well as clubs and organizations. She said that students are welcome to come up with their own ideas and see them become a reality.

“[It is] not only doing good in the community, but it is oriented with your major,” said Merrifield.

The Class of 2018 has donated cleaning supplies that will be used on Oct. 1.
