The Shields School of Business will celebrate Student Appreciation Day on Friday, April 29.

Student Appreciation Day was introduced last year by John Miko, Associate Dean of the SSOB.

Miko said the event – which recognizes the hard work of the University’s students throughout the academic year – was initially launched to build community during the pandemic.

“It was a way to get our community to feel like a community again after not being able to during the pandemic,” said Miko.

All students, regardless of their field of study, are welcome to join in the festivities, which will take place on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the mall and on the patio in front of Schwab Hall.

Last year, Dean of the SSOB Randy Frye cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages on the grill and the grill will be fired up again on Friday.

This year’s event will also include axe throwing, music and various backyard games.

“Last year’s Student Appreciation Day was so much fun. I got to let out some stress with a teammate, throwing axes,” said junior Maddie Harden.

“I’m excited about what this upcoming Appreciation Day will bring.”
