National Hazing Prevention Week was Sept. 23-27 and Greek Life members at Saint Francis helped spread the word about the importance of ending hazing practices by hosting an information table in Padua Hall.
Members of the inter-sorority and inter-fraternity councils volunteered to sit at the information table throughout the week. They encouraged students to sign a poster and handed out teal ribbons.
“This is a good way to portray to the campus community that we are not a harmful group of people,” said senior Communications major Aidan Sweeney, who serves as Interfraternity Council president.
“We are more than what we are portrayed within the media.”
ISC and IFC are the governing bodies for Greek Life.
“These elected representatives hold Greek life members to the highest standard and take every offense very seriously,” said Jen Schmith, an ISC member.
“The Greek community as a whole works together to ensure that we all keep each other accountable for our actions.”
All Greek groups at SFU are required to complete risk management forms to ensure that each chapter understands what is expected of it.
This year, SFU’s Greek organizations have adopted the campaign slogan “We don’t need hazing to be this amazing.”
