The top two teams in the Northeast Conference will face one another in the league’s championship game on ESPN2 on Tuesday night when SFU hosts Fairleigh Dickinson at the Stokes Center at 7 p.m.

The two teams shared the regular-season title with identical 12-6 marks in NEC action. FDU has won seven in a row following an 87-62 home loss to Saint Francis on Feb. 14.

The Red Flash are 12-3 at home this year, with one of those losses at the hands of the Knights. Last season, FDU knocked the Flash out of the NEC Tournament, defeating SFU at the Stokes Center in the league’s quarterfinals.

If the Flash win on Tuesday night, they will punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. The first appearance in the Big Dance came in 1990-91.

Both the 1990-91 and 2018-19 teams featured three 1,000-point scorers. In 1990-91, Joe Anderson, Mike Iuzzolino and John Hilvert all eclipsed 1,000 points in their careers. This year’s team includes 1,000-point scorers Keith Braxton, Jamal King and Isaiah Blackmon.

In March of 1991, SFU defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in the NEC championship game at the Stokes Center. The two teams shared the regular-season crown that season, just as they did this year.

Tuesday night’s title game is a white-out – white T-shirts will be provided to the first 1,000 fans.

Father Malachi Van Tassell, the president of the University, has declared March 12  an “SFU Dress Down/WHITE OUT Day.”
