Reaching Out to Improve Community Health

An upcoming conference will welcome health care professionals in surrounding communities to the University.

The sixth annual DiSepio Symposium Series, scheduled for May 13-14, is an opportunity for area medical practitioners to meet continuing education requirements that are necessary for them to maintain their state licensure.

This year’s symposium will focus on physical therapy. Topics include differential diagnosis, screening, ethics training and more.

“It’s our effort to provide outreach opportunities to clinicians in the area,” said Mark Boland, director of the DiSepio Center for Rehabilitation and a clinical assistant professor of physical therapy at Saint Francis.

“We are trying to educate not only our students, but also the community.”

The chair of the physical therapy department, Ivan Mulligan, will help kick off the conference and lead seminar sessions alongside Boland and other faculty.

“We want to provide a continuing education opportunity that’s more convenient for folks in the region,” said Mulligan.

There are plans to open future meetings of the symposium to students and to continue to provide educational resources that community members want.

“This event really meets the mission of what the DiSepio Institute is supposed to be doing,” said Mulligan.
