The SFU football team shut out Robert Morris, 21-0, last Saturday, setting up a winner-take-all game this weekend at Duquesne.

The Red Flash and Dukes are tied for first place in the Northeast Conference with identical 4-1 NEC marks. The winner of Saturday’s game – which kicks off at noon at Duquesne’s Art Rooney Field in Pittsburgh – will capture the 2015 NEC championship and earn an automatic bid to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

The Red Flash football program has never won an NEC title. Before this year, the team had never posted a winning record at the Division I level. SFU improved its season record to 6-3 with the win over RMU.

SFU and Duquesne are the top two defensive teams in the league. The Red Flash are allowing NEC opponents just 13.3 points per game. The Dukes have allowed their opponents 17.2 ppg.

The two teams rank second (Duquesne – 27.2 ppg) and third (SFU – 26.6 ppg) in the NEC in scoring. Last season, SFU defeated the Dukes, 26-16, in Loretto.

With 21 wins, this year’s senior class has the most wins in a four-year span since the 1971-74 teams collected 24 victories.
