Reaching Every Door a Way of Saying Thank You

Nearly 400 people affiliated with the University participated in Reaching Every Door (R.E.D.) activities on Oct. 7, helping out people in the community with various projects.

R.E.D. is a day of service in which SFU students, faculty and staff members go into local communities to show their appreciation for all the support that people from this area provide to the University year-round.

A total of 392 students, faculty and staff members participated in this year’s R.E.D. activities.

SFU’s chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma – a national service sorority – led the way in organizing service projects. Psychology major Brittany Kirk served as chair of the R.E.D. committee.

Volunteers conducted clean-up projects, painted local church rectories, helped out at local animal rescues, served at nearby community gardens, and even helped get a local pumpkin patch ready for visitors.

Members of the men’s soccer team visited Lilly and helped set up tents around a church for an event. Members of the team also pitched in on a house painting project.

“It was a fun experience,” said Joe Breisinger. “It’s always nice to do good things for other people.”

The cheerleading team visited the Mission Central Hub in Altoona. Angel Creek said their work helped an estimated 200 people struggling with poverty.

“We made birthing kits, health-care kits, school supply bags, and cleaning kits that will be sent around the world to countries less fortunate than the U.S.,” said Creek.
