Cheerleading Squad Qualifies for Nationals

The Red Flash cheerleading team has qualified to compete at the national meet next spring.

Professionals from the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) visited the University on Sept. 12 for a weekend-long intensive camp during which they evaluated the team’s talent and worthiness of a bid.

They also taught advanced stunts, transitions and dismounts.

“I am very proud of the squad for the hard work that they put in for their national’s bid,” said cheerleading coach Tara Brumbaugh. “They set a goal and were able to accomplish that.”

The national competition will be conducted during the week of April 10, 2016, in Daytona, Fla.

The event will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

“After experiencing NCA cheer camp (already), I’ve become so excited to compete at nationals with a very amazing, hard-working squad,” said cheerleader Liz Ritenour.

Brumbaugh said the team will spend time focusing on skills they learned from the NCA officials.
