2015 Family Weekend Wrap-Up

2015 Family Weekend Wrap-Up

This past weekend, the JFK Student Center, along with the rest of campus, was packed full of parents, siblings and grandparents.

This can only mean one thing: it must have been Family Weekend.

On Friday afternoon, the men’s soccer team opened the weekend’s long slate of events with a 1-0 victory over Saint Bonaventure. Later, RED sponsored bingo in Frankie’s. Attendees had the opportunity to win prizes ranging from Sheetz gift cards to tickets to a Pittsburgh Steelers game.

Later that evening, magician Mark Miller performed in JFK Lounge and members of PROUD (People Respecting Others Unique Differences) hosted a game night in Louis Hall.

On Saturday morning, there were two exercise-themed activities: the Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority and Sigma Chi Fraternity hosted their annual Color-for-a-Cure 5K race to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The Phi Lambda Psi Sorority held their annual Autism Walk and bake sale.

Later that morning, the Colleges Against Cancer group hosted a kick-off event for SFU’s 2016 Relay for Life. Supporters had the opportunity to donate money and throw darts at a canvas covered with paint-filled balloons. That afternoon, there was a family tailgate behind JFK. The football team then delivered a 78-0 shutout victory over the University of Faith.

Other events on campus included a “Finding Frankie” scavenger hunt, pumpkin painting in JFK’s Do-It-Yourself Room, golfing at Immergrun Golf Course, a rock climbing wall, an “Explore Scuba” event, live performances by Junk Rock and The Gathering, and tours of the chapel, grotto and Schwab Gardens.

On Saturday night, the women’s volleyball team fell to Robert Morris in its Northeast Conference opener at DeGol Arena. Night two of the Inside Out marathon in Frankie’s was also on Saturday evening. The event featured the return of “Ray Gives it Away.” Anyone actively participating in the songs and performances had the chance to receive a raffle ticket for prizes ranging from Halloween accessories to SFU gear to a five-foot tall teddy bear.

A family mass was conducted on Sunday at the chapel and families had the opportunity to attend breakfast at JFK with Father Malachi. The Inside Out marathon concluded Sunday afternoon.
